2003 Accomplishments
Direct Patient Support Projects
- Developed “Treatment Update for People with Metastatic Colorectal Cancer”
- Supported patient navigator and support group
- Developed patient information for clinical trials, new treatments and expanded access programs
Expanded Access Programs
- Worked with industry, advocates, NCI and FDA to plan and implement successful EAPs and protocols
- Collaborated with FDA on policy issues related to EAP and streamlining the approval process
- Continued to press industry for expanded access programs in appropriate circumstances
Integrity of Research
- Initiated and coordinated advocacy response to attacks on clinical trials by the Washington Legal Foundation
- Generated grassroot support for full funding of NCI Bypass Budget through One Voice Against Cancer
Advocate Growth and Development
- Presented on regulatory, research and legislative issues in a variety of forums including the Colon Cancer Alliance annual conference and the Clinical Trials Summit
- Launched www.CancerActionNow.org to provide focused information on regulatory issues to patients and advocates
- Developed training and outreach opportunities for cancer patient advocates, including
- collaborations with the FDA for training patient consultants
- advocate travel to scientific meetings such as ASCO and SPORE
2002 Expenses and Income:
Our Patient Navigator Program and direct grants to support groups were our primary expenses.
Our annual Stride for Life run and contributions from supporters made up the bulk of our income.
